THINGS YOU CAN DO – HEALTHY EATING HABITS

NUTRITION: JUST ENOUGH OF THE BEST FUELS FOR MY BODY There have been 125,000 generations since the first Homo species, 7,500 generations since the emergence of the current human species, and only 500 generations since the advent of agriculture, which is regarded as the reason for the beginning of civilization.

That brings humanity's lineage to the current generation of you. As an observant, well-rounded human of the present civilization, become aware of what promotes the best health for your genetic heritage.

After years, generations, or even centuries of living a certain way or believing a certain something, it's very hard to break free, even if we know that the belief or way of living is destructive. For example, there is some evidence that eating various grains such as those normally used in bread, cereal, and pasta is harmful to some degree for most of the world population. Even though our genes and our bodies haven't had time to adapt over the brief 500 generations of mass consumption of grains, we still hold on to a belief that we must eat 6–11 servings of grains to improve or maintain our health because either Mom, the media, a food guide, a nutritionist, or some other professional told us to do so.

If you don't get sick often, your bones and muscles are not aching, you don't have stomach issues and you are mentally stable and able to practice mental health, keep doing what you are doing. But if things are not so well then try the following good health habits:
  • soak or sprout grains when consuming them – you can buy frozen breads that are made this way
  • eat a high percentage (at least 60%, and some days as high as 90 to 100%) of a raw, organic, mostly vegetable diet
  • have a couple of eggs (usually raw) most days
  • have the occasional (once every week or two) intake of meat and fish or go without for a while

Experiment and see what works best for you. Aim to eat at least 90% this way, and measure your success by the way you feel physically and mentally. If you are welcoming in the ability to improve self confidence, read the HeatlhyIsm book and practice different eating methods until you find one that works for you. Everyday or on most days, keep the "bad" foods to a bare minimum or not at all. Stay away as much as possible from foods that are "denatured" by harmful things like microwaving, chemicals, overcooking, and the way they were grown.

Sample of nutritional intake

Remember that this information is what works best for some and may not work at all for some people. Study, experiment, listen to your body, experiment some more until you find the ideal food formula that promotes good health habits.

The first thing to do when waking up is to have a glass of clean, filtered, reverse-osmosis water from the tap with a tiny pinch of sea salt,. This first glass of water makes up for the water lost during sleep. About 15–30 minutes later have a super-drink made up of a green powder mixture that contains a wide array of super-foods and that is chock-full of the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and enzymes that you may not find in your regular diet. Add to that a tablespoon of chia seeds (yes, the same seeds used for the Chia Pet craze of the early 80s!).

Another 30–45 minutes later, begin to eat sequentially, eating one food in its entirety before moving on to the next food. Begin with sprouts, then have some type of vegetable like broccoli 15–20 minutes later, then celery, then red or yellow peppers, and so on. When heading out in the morning, take some of this with you, pre-washed and ready to eat, especially the easy-to-eat foods like celery, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and peppers (which you can eat like an apple). If home have a couple of soft boiled eggs or gulp down a couple of raw eggs stirred in a cup (I know, yuk!).

For lunch you can move away from sequential eating and have a plate with diced avocado, tomato sprinkled with olive oil and sea salt, pesto sauce, and humus. Or have a good-sized salad containing a mix of lettuce, avocado, kale, tomato, nuts, sesame seeds, a few raw, organic pecans, and a splash of balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

Eat 2–3 organic ripe fruits a day, between meals, depending on your current health condition. If you're not feeling well, eat very little or no fruit because the sugar in fruits may feed a disease. For snacks eat raw organic nuts and seeds, soaked overnight and rinsed to make them easier for the body to digest. At some point during most days use a juicer to juice a bunch of vegetables like kale, celery, red cabbage, broccoli, and lettuce, along with a piece of ginger. For supper, unless you're taking in organic meat, or fish, try a hearty lentil soup poured over the leftover fiber from the juiced vegetables.

Be Practical, Not Fanatical

Do not be fanatic about this routine (unless you are having heatlh challenges – then be fanatic!)—on occasion have a glass of wine with your meal (if you are into that sort of thing) or allow a "cheat" or unhealthy food such as a cookie with a cup of coffee or tea—but do this only as a rare indulgence to bring a smile to your face, and only if you're feeling great; otherwise, avoid these cheats.

Once every week or two, have nothing during the day but freshly extracted vegetable (not fruit because of high sugar/fructose content) juice (as described above) or water with squeezed lemon. A couple of times a year go on a 3–5-day cleanse in which you drink only certain fluids and consume bulking organic agents to clean "the plumbing."

Listen to Your Body!

The idea is to find what works for your you, for your genetic heritage. If you've descended from a mostly meat eating culture, you will likely need lots of meat in your diet for optimal health. The same goes for if your ancestry survived mostly on vegetables.

But remember that even vegetarian ancestors were still eating the hearts, livers and other organs of the insects that were on the plants that they ate. Your body won't lie to you. If it doesn't like the diet it will tell you through some form of inflammation, ailment or disease. Listen to your body and learn!
